The thesis is pided to six parts: the research significance of political discourse translation with Chinese characteristics, the research approaches used in the thesis and the structure of the thesis which are introduced in the beginning. In the second part, there is literature review, which includes a general summary of the previous researches, the translation categories mentioned in previous researches and the significance of political discourse translation. In the next part, statistical analysis is used to collect and summarize the political discourses with English translation changes in the government work reports from 2016 to 2018, and the English translation strategies used in these political discourses are also classified. National foreign policy and the external publicity attitude in these years are studied in the fourth part. In the last two part, relationship with the construction of China’s national image and China’s discourse power is discussed to reach a conclusion of the research.
2. Literature review
2.1. General summary of the previous researches
Based on the "China National Knowledge Infrastructure" (CNKI) database and the Vip database, 711 papers on political translation have been retrieved, among which only 23 relevant papers on political discourse translation research in the past 10 years have been selected.
Figure. 1 pides the papers into five categories, which are: translation strategy, reader’s perspective, translator’s perspective, significance, and other perspectives. Among them, the researches on significance of political discourse translation roughly have three categories. Table 1 sums up the three categories: nation’s image building, political discourse system establishment and external communication. Through research, the translation strategies of political discourse mainly include "literal translation plus reinforcement", "literal translation plus interpretation", "free translation" and "adaptation".
