Study on the strategies in Political Discourse Translation with Chinese Characteristics --Taking the Translation of Government Work Reports in Recent Three Years as an Example

Abstract: Since the reform and opening up, with the rising of China on the world stage, China's comprehensive national strength has been continuously improved and its international status has gradually increased. Against this background, the curiosity of Western countries exploring China's development model and development road is also increasing. The demand for deeply understanding China is getting more and more urgent. The establishment of a political discourse system with Chinese characteristics plays an extremely important role in the process of China spreading Chinese culture and Chinese values to the rest of the world. What’s more, in the exchanges between China and the West, the translation of political discourse is of the top priority.

Political discourse is the ideological content of political activities, processes and outcomes with strong subjective intentions and purposes, and it is a direct expression of the meaning and purpose of serving political power relations. With the development of world integration and economic globalization, the translation of political discourse with Chinese characteristics has become more and more important in foreign exchanges and the construction of China’s national image.

Through literature search, this paper studies the current situation of political discourse translation, interprets the significance of political discourse translation with Chinese characteristics, and quantifies the different English translations of the same political discourse in the government report in recent three years. The changes are summarized to explore the methods of English translation behind such changes, and the national foreign policy and the external publicity concepts are studied to find out its relationship with the construction of China’s national image and China’s discourse power.

中国特色政治话语英译策略研究

——以近三年政府工作报告英译本为例

摘要：自改革开放以来，随着中国在世界舞台上的日渐崛起，中国的综合国力不 断提升，国际地位逐步升高，在此背景下，西方各国探索中国的发展模式和发展 道路的好奇也越来越高涨，对中国加深了解的需求越来越迫切。中国特色政治话 语体系的建立，在中国向世界各国传播中国文化、中国价值的过程中起着极为重 要的作用，而在中西两方的交流之中，政治话语的翻译更为重中之重。 

政治话语是政治活动、过程和结果具有强烈主观意图和目的的意识形态内容， 是服务于政治权力关系的意义和目的的直接表达。随着世界一体化和经济全球化 程度加深，中国特色政治话语翻译在对外交流和国家形象构建方面，作用越来越 突出。 

该研究通过文献检索，了解近年来政治话语翻译研究现状，阐释中国特色政 治话语翻译的研究意义，量化整理近三年政府报告中相同政治话语的不同英译版 本，对不同时间版本中的英译变化进行归纳分类，探究这种变化背后的英译策略 原则和方法，结合国家对外政策及外宣理念，概括特色政治话语翻译研究及其国 家形象构建和国际话语权的关系。 关键词：政治话语翻译；翻译策略；国家形象；政治话语权
