Abstract The Great Gatsby tells a love story between the poor Gatsby and the wealthy Daisy. Daisy is a woman who was born in a rich family, and she always lives a luxuriant life of the upper class. In order to make his American Dream come true and win Daisy, Gatsby tries every possible means including bootlegging to make a fortune. However, when Gatsby helps Daisy to escape from the accident successfully, and mistakenly be murdered by the husband of Tom’s mistress, there is nothing left to him after his death, but the disillusionment of American Dream, and Daisy does not come back to him, either. This paper is based on an analysis of the characterization of Daisy in the novel The Great Gatsby, and then according to the social status in reality, it draws a conclusion that there is a close relationship between love and money in reality.

I. Introduction
The Great Gatsby is the best work of F•Scott Fitzgerald, who is a prominent novelist in the America, owns the title of the spokesman of the Jazz Age and the laurel of poet. He is also one of the most representative writers in the “Lost Generation”，a term used to describe a group of American writers of 1900’ s. The Great Gatsby has formed a meaning more than a mere romantic love story. Actually, the novel tells the shattering of American Dream rather than its success.
The novel showed a vivid picture of the 1920s when America entered the short but unprecedentedly prosperous period, and when many people thought America was the land of freedom and dreamed an “American dream” which was actually a beautiful mirage. However, in the process of pursuing their dream, people abandoned a lot of social values they treasured in the past and regarded money as the only tool of judging the success. Daisy is a typical example .This is also the point that this paper intends to express.
Through analyzing the characters of Daisy in the novel, the paper aims for a better understanding of the connotation of the novel. This paper tries to analyze the American Dream of Gatsby, who was greatly affected by Daisy. All of this can inspire people a lot to think the life in tranquility.
