摘要语言是由语音、词汇和语法构成的,而词汇又是语言的核心,对语言能力的提高有着至关重要的作用。英语词汇教学是英语教学的重要组成部分。对于英语学习者来说,词汇量的大小直接影响着听、说、读、写等各个层面的提高。不管是任何阶段的英语教学都应该非常重视词汇教学。然而,在教学中,英语词汇学习一直是一个很麻烦的问题。学生在词汇学习过程中,通常会出现许多问题。本文通过对英语词汇教学方法的探讨,根据小学,中学和高中不同年龄段的学生采用不同的英语词汇教学方法,从而使学生对词汇学习达到事半功倍的效果,实现学以致用的目的。24980

Abstract Vocabulary is the most important one of the three major components that constitutes English language, and it is the foundation of any kind of communication. English vocabulary teaching is an important component of English language teaching. For the English learners, the number of vocabulary has a direct effect on the improvement about the listening, speaking, reading and writing at all levels. However, as a foreign language, English vocabulary is always regarded as “a lion in the way”. In this paper, through exploring of English vocabulary teaching methods, according to the primary school, the middle school and the high school students’ age characteristics, applying varies methodologies to teaching practice, so that students can be more effective in learning new words.

I. Introduction

English vocabulary teaching method is teachers in class using what methods to make it easier for students to remember words. Depending on the students’ age characteristics, teachers should use different methods to improve the student’s efficiency of English learning. It focuses on developing learner’s language ability with words and word combinations and can help teachers guide students to memorize words effectively. As the carrier of pronunciation and grammar, vocabulary is the basic material of language composition. Language cannot do without vocabulary, no words, no sentence, and no more language (Schmitt, N. 237). English vocabulary teaching throughout the whole process of language learning, teaching cannot do without vocabulary. If students have not a certain vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation cannot be carried out smoothly, which will directly affect the application and development of students’ English ability. In a sense, the size of vocabulary can indicate a level of human language. In teaching English, vocabulary learning is an important component. Because Chinese and English are very different in many aspects, it has brought a lot of difficulties for teachers and students to learn vocabulary.
In the process of teaching, teachers’ vocabulary teaching method is single, and they also neglect the cultivation of thinking ability of students. They are just simply using repeated explanations on the meaning of words, and students are repeated memories mechanically (Nation, I.S.P. 478). This long-term passive teaching mode is very difficult to make students thinking actively, so as to vocabulary teaching efficiency naturally is low. On the other hand, teachers apply the teaching content of the English vocabulary in the process of teaching mechanically, leave the English vocabulary learning from life. While the students fully master the words by rote. In the lower grades, because the content is less and used the simple words, students can still cope with it, but with the higher grades, English content becomes too deep and the size of vocabulary increase, students feel that vocabulary memory has become the biggest obstacle to learning English (Hu Chun 398). Thus, English vocabulary teaching plays a decisive role in English teaching, and it is also the key to the success of English teaching among primary school, middle school and high school.
