At present, the outcries from all aspects of the society to improve College English Teaching are increasingly higher and fiercer. The disadvantages of current College English Teaching, such as being time consuming, low efficiency, poor practicability, etc. have been attached great importance to. How to make English learned during college useful in students’ future career development or further study is really a big challenge. Therefore, the reform of College English Teaching mode is in urgent need.

College English Teaching reform is actually one of the most important teaching reforms in Chinese higher education. Educationists are doing whatever they can to make sure that College English Teaching are making progress and it will be constantly improved in the future. Colleges are assigned major responsibilities by people and the government to solve these severe problems. Actually, many colleges are under the reform of trying different teaching modes so as to find out the best solution.

A Framework of Reference for EFL Teaching at Tertiary Level in Shanghai (referred to as Framework in the following statement) is drawn up in 2013 by Shanghai Education Committee to push forward the reform and improve College English Teaching. This document emphasizes on teaching English for academic purposes. Under the guidance of the principles put forward by the document and focusing on the defects in the current English teaching practice, this thesis will make a practical analysis, from the perspective of English for Academic Purposes (EAP), on the current College English Teaching mode and put forward some suggestions for the construction of effective College English Teaching mode.
