Abstract:Sol Bellow, a famous American Jewish writer, who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1976 and the Pulitzer Prize in the same year, is widely regarded as a scholar and writer, a spokesperson for contemporary American literature. In the sixty years from 1938 to 2005, he published 11 novels and short stories and essays. Herzog is his first bestseller and a milestone in his writing career.
The novel reveals the spiritual crisis of American intellectuals in the 1960s, who are confused, skeptical, and helpless in face of the material world. Herzog, the protagonist, was puzzled by the absurd reality and bogged in a spiritual crisis. He has always lived in frustration, anxiety, and hatred, but finally he released his heart because of love, affection and friendship, and returned to society and the nature.
Social psychology studies the interaction between man and the environment. In other words, social psychology is a study of how man creating and changing the environment, and how the environment shapes man in return, and affects our behavior. There is no denying that all the social problems all contain psychological factors, but social psychology is more concerned about how everyone in this social environment kind of thinking, feeling and acting.
This thesis analyzes Herzog’s daily behavior and explains it through the theory of social psychology. Through the mapping of the behavioral norms of the society at that time, this paper analyzes the problems that contemporary people produce in the similar environment of today. The failure of Herzog’s life and his eventual return to the society, conclude that self-realization theory, social behavior research, and social cognition on the impact of mental health have a major impact on one’s life.

该小说反映了 20 世纪 60 年代美国知识分子面对物质世界感到困惑、怀疑、无助,从而陷入 精神危机。主人公赫索格困惑于荒诞的现实,陷入了精神危机之中,体现了赫索格始终在无 奈、焦虑、仇恨中生活着,最终他也因为爱情、亲情、友情的陪伴而释放了内心,回归自然, 回归社会。
心理学研究的是人与环境的相互作用,即研究人们如何创造和改变环境,环境又如何反过来 影响人们的性格、行为。所有的社会问题都包含着社会心理因素,但社会心理学更关注每个 人在这种社会环境下怎样思考,感受和行动。
本论文通过对赫索格日常行为的分析,通过社会心理学的理论进行解读,通过对当时社会的 行为准则的映射,对当代人在如今类似的环境中所产生的问题进行分析,通过赫索格一生失 败而最终回归到社会得出结论,自我实现理论、社会行为研究、社会认知对精神健康的影响等对人的一生的重大影响。
