The paper will mainly deal with the significance and common skills of CL, expound cooperative learning’ s effects on Chinese middle school English class, and provide some suggestions for improving the recommendation of CL. First, I will briefly talk about the characteristics and innovation points of the new English teaching materials. That is for better understanding of cooperative learning’s application. Then the theoretical basis will be presented from two aspects: the student-oriented learning environment and collaboration among learners. And the research will be conducted by the ways of questionnaire and interview. Then aimed at the existed problems from the research, I will try to present some reasonable teaching suggestions.  

    The thesis aims to answer the following three questions:

     (1) How to understand the meaning and purpose of cooperative learning in the domestic and foreign context?

     (2) What problems will appear when teachers apply cooperative learning in middle school English class?  

     (3) What strategies or methods can be used for solving or improving those problems?

     (4) How to effectively apply cooperative learning in Chinese middle school English class?
