In China, Studies on root and affix mnemonic only have a relatively short history. Related studies was conducted in the late of 1970s(Wang 13:91-95). In Li Pingwu’ English roots, he states that it is feasible to memorize words scientifically by grasping the roots and analyzing the word formation(23). In Jiang Zheng’ Secrets of English Words, 252common roots, 124 prefixes and 165 suffixes are introduced in this book, which is considered as one of the basic word roots and affixes for those who want to expand their vocabulary(2). In Lin Yan’ The Secrets of English Roots, he emphases on memorizing new words with familiar ones (3). In Liu Yinan’s The Magic of Memorizing Word Roots, he introduce related knowledge of English roots using humorous and interesting expressions, which is suitable for beginners of English roots and affixes learners(5).
In addition, many Chinese scholars have presented their views about English roots and affixes on papers, among which the following respects were primarily discussed: 1) related theoretical knowledge about roots and affixes is widely discussed; 2) the significance of roots and affixes in vocabulary teaching and learning is discussed; 3) The methods of applying the root and affix theory into teaching practice are discussed.
