中国农民形象解读赛珍珠的《大地》分析

Abstract
As an American-born author who grew up in China, the American Nobel prizewinner Pearl S. Buck created a lot of novels about Chinese peasants according to her unique experiences in China and her deep comprehension on Chinese peasants. The Good Earth, as a Pearl’s representative work, interpreted the characteristics of the Chinese peasant images. The significant work changed the traditional view of China which was considered as a country with long history but weak and backwards from Westerners. Chinese peasants were no longer considered as the sick man of Asian and self-centered people. Her works had tremendous influence on social progress and westerners’ traditional views towards China.
This essay analyzes different peasants’ images of The Good Earth, mainly focusing on the images of Wang Lung and his wife O-Lan. The paper falls into four parts. The first part serves as backgrounds of further analysis of the book, which introduces Pearl’s family and The Good Earth. The second part analyzes the foreigners’ biased opinion on Chinese, pointing out that Pearl had different views. The third part probes into various images of The Good Earth and sometimes makes a comparison and contrast with today’s Chinese images. The last part arrives at the conclusion that The Good Earth and Pearl’s creation have a great influence on the world.

摘要作为一名出生于美国，青年时期成长于中国的诺贝尔获奖者、美国女作家赛珍珠来说，她以其独特的中国成长经历和个人对中国农民的独特理解，创作出许多有关于中国农民题材的小说。《大地》就是她的一本代表作。这本小说完美地诠释了中国的农民形象。这一作品的问世，有力地改变了传统西方眼中中国那种“历史悠久而又软弱落后的神秘国度”印象。中国农民也不再是“东亚病夫”或自我为中心的群体。她的作品对社会进步和改变西方人对中国人的传统看法有着巨大的影响。
本毕业论文文分析《大地》中的不同农民形象，以主人公王龙及其老婆阿兰为主要对象。文章共分为四个部分。第一部分作为背景部分，介绍了赛珍珠的家庭背景和《大地》一书。第二部分分析外国人对中国人的偏见观点，指出唯独赛珍珠怀有不同的观点。第三部分分析《大地》中的不同农民形象，有时和现代的中国人形象进行相关性对比。最后一部分是结论，总结《大地》的出版和赛珍珠对世界的影响。
