2 Analysis of the metaphor-stereotyped woman image
As we all know, metaphor has always been the important point of literary criticism. Interpreting metaphors in detail by feminist reading strategy means finding those images that appear in the text frequently and repeatedly, and try to find the way how to explain metaphors so that it contributes to realizing the cultural aim of feminism and to updating and deepening the understanding to the text.
In A Letter from an Unknown Woman insaneness images are not only a metaphor that patriarchal culture ill-treats female freedom, desire and creativity, but also what women use to fight with patriarchal norm by all possible means and without the fear of death. Therefore, the heroine becomes a brave fighter who has been struggling against patriarchal norms and has led a life of her own. what’s more, the death and libido of the heroine in the end of the novel is also borned with positive and initiative meaning by feminist reading strategy.
