2.2 Reality TV show
Reality TV show is a type of TV program that documents real-life situations. Its feature is the “real” show; the core is “people” and both ordinary people and super stars can take part in the program; “Show” refers to fiction and games that can enhance its entertainment. Reality TV Show has developed for many years and includes a variety of programs, mainly including competition, performance, blind-date and job hunting. Recently, a new Reality TV Show has drawn people’s attention, among which Papa, Where Shall We Travel is the most influential.
2.3 Papa, Where Shall We Travel?
Papa, Where Shall We Travel is introduced from South Korean MBC television station. It has 12 episodes altogether. In the first season, five star fathers have to go to a place far away from city to look after their children on their own within 72 hours. A series of assignments are arranged for them to complete.
Scholars also made research on this program. First, some studies are made from the perspective of communication studies. For example, Zheng Fang(Zhang, 2014) made analysis on the five elements of communication. Gao Sen concluded the rule of art during the ecological communication. The second perspective of research is the reason of this program’s success. Luo Yao xia(Luo, 2014) made a summary of three elements of success from this program. Thirdly, some scholars prefer to think over the culture behind the program. Li Xihui(Li, 2014) made analysis of the culture and value of this program. When performing the research, scholars usually use the case analysis and comparison analysis to fully analyze this program. The findings help us a lot to better analyze the code switching in Parent-Child Reality Show.
Papa, Where Shall We Travel is a very successful Parent-Child Reality Show. The first season is the most popular one in China and is the typical one of live TV show. So we choose the first season as our target of research. Having knowledge of the code switching phenomenon in the parent-child reality show can help us better understand the motivation and the consciousness in the communication between parents and children. It is of great benefit to help parents to communicate with children more effectively. At the same time, the study has a great significance on the way to promote parent-child reality show.
