Abstract At present, the ecological crisis is becoming more and more serious and it is a fact that people are chasing material wealth blindly with no attention to the needs from heart; therefore, it is of great educational significance to explore Thoreau’s attitudes towards life embodied in his works Walden. Here the paper attempts to illuminate Thoreau’s life philosophy from three perspectives: returning to simplicity, eco-centric equality and pursuit of spiritual independence, which points out that Thoreau’s idea of a good life is to live a simple, free life and to live with nature harmoniously. Thus, it provides a good way for people to get rid of spirit crises as well as to deal with material and spiritual correctly.

Ⅰ. Introduction
Nowadays the industrialization brings the mankind very convenient and colorful life to people, but at the same time it also seriously destroys the human spirit home，just because of the superiority of human emphasis on material wealth. Thus it led to the deprivation of human spiritual life. What even worse is that humans are getting lost in morality. They pay so much attention on the sake of economic interests and overvalue consumerism instead of quality of life. The mankind gradually suffers from it now. So people conscious of the harm of obsession with materialistic, at the same time, the study of how to balance the material and spirit has arouse more attention.
Thoreau, as a representative of the pursuit of spiritual wealth, formed his simple life view at Walden. He sought for the relationship between material and spiritual. He thought that the material conditions which for human survival is very little, against their neglect of the spiritual life. He advocated simple life, rich inside. What’s more, he did it by himself. He gave up the modern life and lived in Walden Lake. The comprehensive analysis of Thoreau’s simple life view has a huge influence on latter times. It has advantages to purify the mind of modern people and it is also useful to help people to choose their life style. Most important is that it wakes up people’s awareness of the construction of human spirit civilization and ethics, as well as gives us a good example to protect environment indeed in our daily life
