现代篮球运动诞生于美国于1891年，至今已有一百多年的历史，篮球运动作为一个举世瞩目的体育赛事项目，通过参赛运动员的对抗与争斗，可以激励人们树立顽强的拼搏意志，直观的集体观念和勇敢向前的信念。世界篮球运动的发展影响和制约的因素有很多，包括篮球他们自身的因素，同时也受到政治、经济、文化、审美观念和多样化的需求为生活的外部因素的不同的社会历史时期的影响。深圳龙岗区位于沿海地区，经济发展迅速，篮球运动十分普及，广大中学生参与篮球运动的积极性很高。
随着国内篮球运动改革进程的不断深化，篮球运动市场表现出蒸蒸日上的强劲势头。无论是代表中国女篮最高水平的WCBA，还是刚刚起步的大学生女子篮球比赛都蕴含着中国女子篮球运动的希望。但近几年中国女篮的竞技水平状况却不尽人意，女篮取得从1992年巴塞罗那奥运会亚军，1994 年澳大利亚世界女篮锦标赛第2名败落到连2000年奥运会入场券都没有取得，这是值得深思的问题。首先体能、技术、战术等是一部分的影响因素。然而当我们冷静地看一下中国女子篮球的现状时，还有一个尖锐的问题，那就是中国女子篮球后备人才的严重匮乏。
