    Welcome to the world of Whirligig. From now on, all you will see is a story based on two children, namely Jake and Sophie, showed their attitude----bored towards history;; nevertheless the history teacher, Mr. Johnson, used his CD-ROM to draw their attention to history. In the CD-ROM, my brother, a fictitious figure called Whirligig, offered a trip through time. By the way, I am Whirlwind, who is a little opposed to my brother. My brother took advantage of the power of history so as to develop others’ interest in history. This time these kids were lucky. My brother made them travel from the Ancient Rome to the Space Age. They appreciated the great Colosseum. They appreciated the rhythmic Renaissance music, as well as many other wonderful things. In a nutshell, they were attracted to history. However, in my opinion, my way of getting children interested in history is far better than my brother’s. Also, Jake and Sophie used it from time to time, and probably it was my way that really attached their attention to history. What is my way? Follow me into my world…

Welcome to the world of Whirlwind, a world filled with imagination. To begin with, I would like to demonstrate that it was imagination that connected to kids with history. It is generally believed that kids are imaginative and creative, and these kids are without exception. Without imagination, Jake wouldn’t consider the 1966 World Cup as the most exciting event. Without imagination, Sophie wouldn’t refer to the ancient Rome chariot race as the modern football match. Without imagination, even Mr. Johnson wouldn’t create such a figure to spark their attention. In short, imagination is everywhere in the book. Moreover, imagination exists everywhere in the world. If you want to draw a picture, you need imagination. If you want to write a novel ,you need imagination. If you want to play a mansion, you still need imagination. You cannot even escape from imagination. You need it to create you ideas, achieve your ambition and even make your life fruitful. Have you realized the significance of imagination? From now, imagination will be increasingly significant with each passing day…

    On one hand, imagination is the foundation of all success. Throughout history, there have been innumerable examples that one gained his fame through imagination. The following are just a few of the many typical examples which can well justify the true definition of imagination. Kekule brought his imagination in full play so that he indicated the construction of benzene. Mendeleyev took advantage of his genius imagination and created the periodic table. Newton imagined throughout his life and the world-famous three laws were just born under his imagination. Zu Chongzhi, a great mathematician in the 15th century China, made use of his imaginative mind to divide 113355 into two parts and then define 335/115 as the most accurate pi(π), a symbol for the number(≈3.14) used to calculate the sizes of various parts of circles and spheres. Furthermore, imagination plays a crucial role not only in a single person but also in a group or even a nation. A nation without imagination is one without vitality, without youthfulness and without great expectations. Only if a nation has her own imagination can she thrive. On the other hand, imagination is catalyst of happiness. It is commonly believed that everyone dreams almost every night, but have you ever got your own felicity while dreaming? Maybe yes. See! You get joy when dreaming and dreaming is a sort of fundamental imagination. It is universally believed that kids are the happiest. Why? Undoubtedly, the answer is that they have more imagination. In the story, Jake and Sophie used their imagination to show how happy they are.

    Someone once asked me, Whirlwind, why cannot he get any achievements while imagining. Probably this is your confusion as well. As far as I am concerned, not only should we realize the significance of imagination but we should attach the importance to how to imagine. Actually imagination is a complex process. First of all, you should observe the object to confirm the one you want to imagine, just like searching for an appropriate entrance. Secondly, you should use your imagination based on the race and the football match. Thirdly, you should use you imagination based on the characteristics. See to imagine is not that easy. Here is an interested example. Have you ever heard that there are pictographs in English. If not, use the imagining process and imagine for a while… reckon about the words such as snake, valley, mountain and wave… magnify and extend the first letter of each word. It just resembles the meaning of each word. What a fantastic result it is. Did you find it? If so, congratulations! You master the essence of imagination. Now please close you eyes.
